The CCE Group B Mains Syllabus gives you 200 marks in 120 minutes, and because every question carries one mark, that is 200 questions at 36 seconds each.
Read that number again before you read the topic list. Group A candidates write three-hour descriptive papers. You will be marking bubbles at nearly two a minute, on ten topics that run from the Constitution to cyber security. Speed is part of this syllabus, even though the syllabus never says so.
Everything in this CCE Group B mains syllabus guide comes from the official advertisement for Advt. No. 378/202526 and from Appendix-G of the Gujarat Subordinate Services, Class III (Group-A and Group-B) (Combined Competitive Examination) Rules notified on 22 January 2026. Group A is a different paper and has its own page.

CCE Group B Prelims Syllabus and Pattern
Before the CCE Group B mains syllabus matters at all, you have to clear this paper. The prelims is common to Group A and Group B, so you sit the same 150-mark paper as every other CCE candidate. It decides only one thing: whether you reach the mains.
| No. | Section | ગુજરાતીમાં | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | English | અંગ્રેજી | 15 |
| 2 | Gujarati | ગુજરાતી | 15 |
| 3 | General Awareness and Current Affairs | સામાન્ય જાગૃતિ અને કરંટ અફેર્સ | 30 |
| 4 | Quantitative Aptitude | ક્વોન્ટિટેટિવ એપ્ટિટ્યુડ | 30 |
| 5 | Reasoning | રીઝનિંગ | 60 |
| Total | 150 |
Reasoning alone is 60 marks, which is 40% of the prelims. Quantitative aptitude adds another 30, so two skill-based sections carry 90 of the 150 marks while the two language sections together carry only 30.
The prelims is CBRT-based, has 150 questions in 120 minutes, which works out to 48 seconds per question, and deducts 0.25 for every wrong answer. Of these five sections, only the languages and current affairs reappear in the CCE Group B mains syllabus, because quantitative aptitude and reasoning stop at the prelims. Candidates with disability get 20 extra minutes per hour. Note also that the exam fee of ₹500 for unreserved and ₹400 for reserved candidates is refunded to everyone who actually appears.
Waiting on the prelims outcome first? The CCE Prelims Answer Key 2026 page tracks the provisional answer key cum response sheet, the objection window and how to work out your raw score before the merit list is out.
CCE Group B Mains Syllabus 2026: Topics and Marks
The CCE Group B mains syllabus table below copies the first two columns exactly from Appendix-G. The Gujarati column is our translation, added because so many aspirants search for this list in Gujarati.
| No. | Topic (official) | ગુજરાતીમાં (અમારો અનુવાદ) | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Indian state system and constitution | ભારતીય રાજ્યવ્યવસ્થા અને બંધારણ | 20 |
| 2 | Indian Economy, State Economy, NITI Aayog | ભારતીય અર્થતંત્ર, રાજ્યનું અર્થતંત્ર, નીતિ આયોગ | 20 |
| 3 | Public Administration and Governance | જાહેર વહીવટ અને શાસન | 20 |
| 4 | Discipline and Ethics in Public Service | જાહેર સેવામાં શિસ્ત અને નૈતિકતા | 10 |
| 5 | Information on various Government Schemes | વિવિધ સરકારી યોજનાઓની માહિતી | 30 |
| 6 | Regional, National and International important events including Current Affairs | પ્રાદેશિક, રાષ્ટ્રીય અને આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય મહત્ત્વની ઘટનાઓ તથા કરંટ અફેર્સ | 30 |
| 7 | History and Geography of Gujarat | ગુજરાતનો ઇતિહાસ અને ભૂગોળ | 20 |
| 8 | Cultural Heritage of Gujarat (Arts and Literature) | ગુજરાતનો સાંસ્કૃતિક વારસો (કલા અને સાહિત્ય) | 10 |
| 9 | Gujarati and English | ગુજરાતી અને અંગ્રેજી | 20 |
| 10 | Science, Environment and Information Technology | વિજ્ઞાન, પર્યાવરણ અને માહિતી ટેકનોલોજી | 20 |
| Total | 200 |
Three readings of this table are worth more than a week of random revision.
- Schemes and current affairs are 60 marks. Topics 5 and 6 together are 30% of the paper, more than polity and economy combined. Nothing on the list rewards a daily newspaper habit more.
- Governance is 50 marks. Topics 1, 3 and 4 form one polity-administration-ethics block, a quarter of the CCE Group B mains syllabus.
- Gujarat is 30 marks. Topic 7 and topic 8 are state-specific, and a national GK book will not cover Gujarati theatre, folk traditions or coastal culture.
Notice what is missing too. Reasoning does not appear anywhere in the CCE Group B Mains Syllabus. It is worth 60 marks in the prelims and zero in the mains, so the section that got you through stage one earns nothing in stage two.
What the CCE Group B Mains Syllabus Does Not Tell You Yet
Appendix-H of the Rules carries a full, sub-point-level syllabus for Group A’s descriptive papers. For Group B there is no Appendix-H equivalent. The Rules say instead that the detailed syllabus for each topic shall be such as may be prescribed and notified by the Board.
So if a website shows you a neat list of sub-topics under the CCE Group B Mains Syllabus, ask where it came from. Most of the time it is copied from an older pattern or written by the site itself.
There is a better guide, and it is inside the same Rules. Six of the ten Group B headings appear word for word in Group A’s General Studies syllabus, where the Board did print sub-points:
| Group B topic | Matching Group A unit | What the sub-points cover |
|---|---|---|
| Indian state system and constitution | Unit (f), 20 marks | Constitution and its salient features, functions and duties of Union and State governments, federal structure and the Governor’s role |
| Public Administration and Governance | Unit (g), 20 marks | Twelve sub-points: scope of public administration, civil services, good governance and e-governance, RTI, division of powers, constitutional amendments and institutions, Parliament and legislatures, judiciary, rights issues, international organisations |
| Discipline and Ethics in Public Service | Unit (h), 10 marks | Ethics and human interaction, attitude, emotional intelligence, human values, Lokpal and Lokayukta, plus a case study |
| Indian Economy, State Economy, NITI Aayog | Unit (i), 15 marks | Planning in India, NITI Aayog, monetary and fiscal policy, public finance, rural economy, Gujarat’s economy and co-operative movement, infrastructure |
| History and Geography of Gujarat | Units (a) and (c) | Dynasties of Gujarat, freedom struggle, Mahagujarat movement, landforms, rivers, minerals and water resources |
| Cultural Heritage of Gujarat | Unit (b), 15 marks | Arts and crafts, Gujarati theatre, folk culture and oral tradition, coastal and tribal culture |
Our CCE Group A mains syllabus page carries those Appendix-H sub-points in full. Treat them as the closest official guide to what the ten headings of the CCE Group B mains syllabus mean, not as a promise about your own paper.
The four headings with no Group A twin are government schemes, current affairs, Gujarati and English, and science with environment and IT. For schemes, work through the state and central flagship programmes: eligibility, launch year, department and benefit amount. That is exactly the kind of one-line fact a 1-mark MCQ is built from.

CCE Group B Mains Syllabus Maths: 200 Questions in 120 Minutes
Thirty-six seconds per question is the single hardest constraint in the CCE Group B Mains Syllabus, and it changes how you should prepare.
Then add the marking scheme. Each wrong answer costs 0.25, so four wrong answers wipe out one correct answer. A question left completely blank also costs 0.25. The only free skip is the “Not attempted” option printed inside every question.
Here is what that does to a real score. Suppose you are sure of 120 answers, get 50 wrong and leave 30 untouched.
- You mark “Not attempted” on those 30: 120 − (50 × 0.25) = 107.5 marks.
- You leave them blank: 120 − (80 × 0.25) = 100 marks.
Same knowledge, 7.5 marks gone. And since the qualifying standard is 40%, or 80 out of 200, those marks can decide whether your paper is even considered.
On guessing, the arithmetic is mildly in your favour once you can eliminate an option, so guess where you can rule at least one answer out, and use “Not attempted” for the rest.
How Merit Is Built Under the CCE Group B Mains Syllabus
The CCE Group B mains syllabus carries the merit list on its own. The sequence runs like this:
- Prelims: screening only. Every applicant who paid the fee sits it provisionally, without document checks.
- Shortlist: category-wise, seven times the vacancies. On the advertisement’s 3,005 Junior Clerk posts, that is about 21,035 candidates called to the Group B mains.
- Mains: the 200-mark objective paper decides the final merit, subject to the 40% qualifying standard.
- Extra marks: widows who have not remarried and eligible sportspersons get 5% of the marks they scored added to the merit calculation.
- After the result: a list of successful candidates and a list of unsuccessful candidates are both published, and no waiting list is prepared.
CCE Group B Mains Syllabus vs Group A
The CCE Group B mains syllabus and the Group A scheme differ on almost every axis:
| Point | Group B | Group A |
|---|---|---|
| Paper | One objective paper | Three descriptive papers |
| Marks | 200 | 350 |
| Time | 120 minutes | 3 hours per paper |
| Question type | MCQ with negative marking | Handwritten answers, no negative marking |
| Syllabus detail | Ten headings with marks | Full sub-point syllabus in Appendix-H |
| Posts | Junior Clerk | Head Clerk, Senior Clerk, Collector office clerk and others |
You can apply for both groups in the same application, and the Board prepares separate mains lists for each. If you are appearing for both, the CCE Group B mains syllabus and Group A’s General Studies paper overlap enough that one round of revision serves both.

There is no standalone CCE Group B mains syllabus booklet. The pattern and topic list sit inside the advertisement, in Appendix-G on pages 37 and 38, and inside the Rules notified in the Gujarat Government Gazette on 22 January 2026.

FAQs on CCE Group B Mains Syllabus
What is the CCE Group B mains syllabus 2026?
The CCE Group B mains syllabus has ten topics worth 200 marks: Indian state system and constitution 20, Indian and state economy with NITI Aayog 20, public administration and governance 20, discipline and ethics 10, government schemes 30, current affairs and important events 30, history and geography of Gujarat 20, cultural heritage of Gujarat 10, Gujarati and English 20, and science, environment and IT 20.
How many questions are in the CCE Group B mains exam?
Two hundred. The CCE Group B mains syllabus turns 200 marks into 200 questions, because the paper carries 200 marks and every question is worth one mark, so you face 200 MCQs in 120 minutes, which is 36 seconds per question. All questions must be attempted, and candidates with disability receive 20 minutes of extra time for each hour of the paper.
Is there negative marking in the CCE Group B mains?
Yes. Under the CCE Group B mains syllabus rules, every wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, and a question where you mark no option at all also costs 0.25. Each question carries a “Not attempted” choice, and selecting it means no deduction. That option is the only safe way to skip a question you do not know.
What is the qualifying standard for the CCE Group B exam?
Forty per cent, in each stage and in every paper of that stage. For the 150-mark prelims that is 60 marks, and for the 200-mark Group B mains it is 80 marks. The advertisement states that no category can be given a qualifying standard lower than 40%.
Where can I download the CCE Group B mains syllabus PDF?
The syllabus is printed inside the detailed advertisement for Advt. No. 378/202526, in Appendix-G on pages 37 and 38, alongside the Group A scheme. Use the download table on this page, or open the advertisement and notices section of gsssb.gujarat.gov.in.
Is the CCE Group B mains syllabus available in Gujarati?
The Board prints the ten topics in English inside Appendix-G, and the exam itself is conducted in Gujarati for every topic except the English portion. This page gives a Gujarati translation beside each official heading so you can revise in the language you will actually answer in.
How many candidates are called for the CCE Group B mains?
Seven times the category-wise vacancies, based on prelims marks. Against the 3,005 Junior Clerk posts in the advertisement, that works out to roughly 21,035 candidates. Prelims marks are used only for this shortlisting and never enter the final merit list.
Does reasoning come in the CCE Group B mains?
No. Reasoning carries 60 marks in the preliminary exam, the largest section there, but it does not appear among the ten topics of the CCE Group B mains syllabus. Any syllabus page that still shows a reasoning section in the Group B mains is using the pre-2026 pattern.
Which topic carries the most marks in the CCE Group B mains?
Two topics of the CCE Group B mains syllabus tie at 30 marks each: information on various government schemes, and regional, national and international important events including current affairs. Together they make up 30% of the paper, so schemes and current affairs deserve daily revision rather than last-week cramming.
When is the CCE Group B mains exam 2026?
GSSSB has not announced a mains date, though the CCE Group B mains syllabus itself is already final. The preliminary exam is being held from 16 to 29 September 2026, and the mains follows the prelims result and shortlisting. Check gsssb.gujarat.gov.in and your OJAS login, since exam notices reach candidates by SMS on the registered mobile number.
Final Word on the CCE Group B Mains Syllabus
Ten topics, 200 questions, 120 minutes and a 40% floor. The CCE Group B Mains Syllabus is short to read and heavy to sit, and the marks tell you where to start: schemes and current affairs first, the governance block second, Gujarat’s history, geography and culture third.
Your next step: take the table above, write the ten topics on one page with their marks beside them, and give every study session to the topic with the highest marks you have not revised this week.
