Paper 2 is a 100-mark descriptive paper in Gujarati and English, and it is opened for evaluation only if you clear both halves of Paper 1. PSI Syllabus Paper 1 Part A (100 Marks)

The official PSI syllabus lists Part A as two subject headings with marks and no topic breakdown. The topics below are drawn from previous Gujarat Police papers and are marked as such.

PSI Syllabus: Reasoning and Data Interpretation (50 Marks)

Expect series, coding and decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking and order, seating arrangement, syllogism, statement and conclusion, calendars, clocks, Venn diagrams, mirror and water images, figure series, cubes and dice, data sufficiency, and interpretation of tables, bar graphs, pie charts and line graphs.

PSI Syllabus: Quantitative Aptitude (50 Marks)

Expect number system, simplification, percentage, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, ratio and proportion, average, partnership, time and work, pipes and cisterns, time speed and distance, boats and streams, ages, LCM and HCF, mensuration, permutation and combination, and probability.

Part A alone is 100 of the 200 marks in Paper 1. Reasoning and maths together carry as much weight as the entire general studies section in Part B. Candidates who treat Part A as secondary usually fail the 40% gate there and never reach evaluation of Paper 2.

PSI Syllabus Part B: Constitution and Public Administration (25 Marks)

ભારતનું બંધારણ તથા જાહેર પ્રશાસન. This block of the PSI syllabus lists ten official topics.

Gujarat PSI Exam Paper 1 Marking Rules

  • Every question carries 1 mark.
  • Every attempted question with an incorrect answer carries a negative mark of 0.25.
  • Every question has an option E, “Not attempted”. Selecting option E attracts no negative marking.
  • If no option is selected at all, 0.25 is still deducted.
  • If more than one option is selected, 0.25 is deducted.
  • White ink is prohibited on the OMR sheet. If used, the answer is treated as wrong and 0.25 is deducted.
  • You must qualify in Part A and Part B separately at 40% each.

The rule that quietly costs marks: a blank bubble is penalised exactly like a wrong answer. Marking option E is free. Skip 20 questions without marking E and you lose 5 marks for nothing.

PSI Syllabus Paper 2: Gujarati and English Language Skill (100 Marks)

This descriptive paper runs for 3 hours and carries 100 marks. The PSI syllabus specifies the exact task for each section, which makes it easier to prepare than most candidates assume.

PSI Paper 2 Part A: Gujarati Language Skill (70 Marks)

The PSI Paper 2 answer sheet detail nobody mentions

The official syllabus carries a closing note:

નોંધ: Gujarati and English Language Skill (Descriptive) ની ઉત્તરવહી કોરા પાનાવાળી હશે. (લીટીવાળી નહીં હોય)

The descriptive answer booklet will have blank, unruled pages. There are no lines to write on.

If you have only ever practised on ruled paper, your handwriting will drift and your lines will slope on exam day, and a 350-word essay is a long way to drift. Practise your essay, precis and letter writing on plain A4 sheets from now on.

The PSI Paper 2 evaluation rule that decides everything

Paper 2 is evaluated only for candidates who score at least 40% in Part A and Part B of Paper 1 separately.

So if you miss the cut in either half of the MCQ paper, your descriptive booklet is never opened, however well you wrote it. Clearing both halves of Paper 1 is the gate to everything else in the Gujarat Police PSI Syllabus.

PSI Eligibility: Qualification and Age

The PSI syllabus only matters if you are eligible to sit the exam. These are the requirements from the board’s Unarmed PSI advertisement.

CriteriaRequirement
Educational QualificationGraduate degree from a recognised university, or a government-recognised equivalent
Minimum Age21 years
Maximum Age35 years (general category)
LanguageKnowledge of Gujarati or Hindi, or both
Computer KnowledgeCertificate as per GAD resolutions dated 13/08/2008 and 18/03/2016
Application FeeRs. 100 for general category; EWS, SC, ST, SEBC and ex-servicemen exempt

Age relaxation in the PSI exam

  • SC, ST, SEBC and EWS candidates — 5 years
  • All women candidates — 5 years (reserved category women get 10 years in total)
  • Sportspersons meeting the prescribed conditions — 5 years
  • Serving Constable, Head Constable or ASI in the state police — 3 years for the Unarmed PSI cadre
  • Ex-servicemen — actual service period is deducted from age, and the remainder must not exceed the upper limit by more than 3 years
  • After all relaxations, age must not exceed 45 years, except for ex-servicemen

You may apply without the computer certificate, but you must produce it before receiving the appointment order. Only candidates originally from Gujarat receive SC, ST, SEBC or EWS reservation benefit, and every certificate must be issued on or before the last date of application.

PSI Selection Process: All Stages

  1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — the running test. Qualifying only.
  2. Physical Standard Test (PST) — height and chest measurement. Qualifying only.
  3. Main Exam — Paper 1 and Paper 2, 300 marks. This builds your merit.
  4. Document Verification — candidates numbering roughly two times the vacancies are called.
  5. Medical Examination — you must pass the prescribed pre-appointment medical test.

The PSI physical stage carries no merit marks. It only decides who reaches the written exam.

PSI Physical Efficiency Test

CategoryDistanceMaximum time
Male5,000 metres25 minutes
Female1,600 metres9 minutes 30 seconds
Ex-serviceman2,400 metres12 minutes 30 seconds

If you applied for both the PSI and Lokrakshak cadres, you sit the physical test only once, since the standards are identical. If you somehow receive more than one call letter, attend on the earliest date only. Appearing more than once cancels your candidature.

Ten defects that disqualify a PSI candidate

This list sits in Appendix A of the recruitment rules and eliminates PSI candidates outright. Check yourself against it before you invest months in the PSI syllabus.

  1. વાંકા ઢીંચણવાળા (Knock Knee)
  2. ફૂલેલી છાતી (Pigeon Chest)
  3. ત્રાંસી આંખ (Squint Eye)
  4. સપાટ પગ (Flat Feet)
  5. કાયમની અતિશય ફૂલેલી નસ (Varicose Veins)
  6. ફૂલેલો અંગૂઠો (Hammer Toes)
  7. અસ્થિભંગ અંગ (Fractured Limb)
  8. સડેલા દાંત (Decayed Teeth)
  9. ચેપી ચામડીના રોગ (Communicable Skin Disease)
  10. રંગ અંધત્વની ખામી (Colour Blindness)

Colour blindness applies to PSI. The rules exempt only Jail Sepoy posts from that clause. Squint eye and colour blindness together disqualify more candidates than any other item on this list, and most only discover it at the medical stage. Get an eye test done early.

The rules also require candidates to be free from surgical deformities such as knock-knee and flat feet, and to have no past history of fits, psychiatric ailments or varicose veins.

SHAPE-I standard

The recruitment rules require candidates to meet the SHAPE-I standard, meaning fit in all respects to perform normal professional functions under each head.

Where the Gujarati translation and the English rules differ, the English published examination and recruitment rules are final.

Bonus Marks Added to Your PSI Exam Score

Extra marks are added to the marks you score in the PSI exam. These are worth knowing before you plan, because 15 marks is a large edge in a tight merit list.

GroundExtra marks
NCC ‘C’ certificate2 marks
RRU or NFSU qualification, 1 year5 marks
RRU or NFSU qualification, 2 years9 marks
RRU or NFSU qualification, 3 years12 marks
RRU or NFSU qualification, 4 years or more15 marks
Sportsperson at national, international, inter-university or All India School Sangh level5% of total marks in Paper 1 and Paper 2
Widow woman candidate, not remarried at the time of appointment5% of total marks in Paper 1 and Paper 2

RRU is the Rashtriya Raksha University, formerly Raksha Shakti University. NFSU is the National Forensic Sciences University, formerly Gujarat Forensic Science University. Any diploma, graduate degree, PG diploma or PG degree of one year or more from either institution qualifies.

The recognised sports are athletics including track and field, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, tennis, weight lifting, wrestling, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, rifle shooting, kabaddi, kho-kho, archery, horse riding, shot put, boating, chess and handball. Mere representation at one of the three listed levels is enough.

How the PSI merit list is built

PSI merit for document verification is the sum of your total marks in Paper 1 and Paper 2, plus the NCC, RRU or NFSU, sports and widow bonus marks. Roughly two times the number of vacancies are then called for verification.

If two candidates tie on total marks, the older date of birth gets preference. If marks and date of birth are both equal, the taller candidate is preferred.

Candidates who want rechecking of Paper 1 or Paper 2 get 15 days from the day after marks are published, on payment of the fee fixed by the board.

What You Get After Clearing the PSI Exam

StagePay
Contract period (5 years)Rs. 49,600 per month, consolidated fixed pay
After satisfactory training and serviceRegular pay scale of the cadre

Candidates selected through the PSI exam must obtain a light motor vehicle or heavy motor vehicle driving licence during the contract period. They must also take and pass the prescribed Gujarati, Hindi or English language training, departmental training, pre-service training and the end-of-training examination. The new contributory pension scheme applies to all appointees.

How to Plan Your PSI Syllabus Preparation by Marks

Let the marks in the PSI syllabus decide your timetable, not the length of each topic list.

BlockMarksShare of 300Priority
Paper 1 Part A (Reasoning + Maths)10033%Highest, and it is a hard gate
Paper 2 (Descriptive)10033%High, and most neglected
Paper 1 Part B (4 subjects)10033%High, spread across four areas

The three blocks of the PSI syllabus are equal in weight, which surprises most candidates. Part B feels like the biggest section because it has the longest syllabus, but it carries exactly the same 100 marks as the reasoning and maths paper that takes far less content to master.

  • Write one essay a week on plain paper. 30 marks in a single question, and the unruled answer sheet makes practice format matter.
  • Practise precis with a word counter. Both papers demand exactly one-third length plus a title. Marks are lost on length, not language.
  • Build the option E habit in every mock. It is free insurance against negative marking.
  • Do not skip world geography. The PSI syllabus extends to વિશ્વ, unlike the constable paper.
  • Treat public administration as a separate subject. Topics 6 to 10 of the Constitution block are not in any constable syllabus.
  • Read a Gujarati newspaper daily. It feeds current affairs, essay content and Gujarati writing fluency at the same time.

Gujarat Police PSI Syllabus PDF Download

The official Gujarat Police PSI syllabus document is titled પો.સ.ઇ. કેડરનો અભ્યાસક્રમ and is published by the Gujarat Police Recruitment Board.

  1. Open gprb.gujarat.gov.in and go to the Downloads or Recruitment section.
  2. Look for the syllabus document listed against the PSI cadre advertisement.
  3. Cross-check the marks distribution against the advertisement PDF on ojas.gujarat.gov.in, where the exam pattern is printed in full.

Older PSI syllabus files circulate widely on Telegram and coaching sites, and some of them carry the Lokrakshak mark split under a PSI heading. If the file you downloaded shows Part A as 80 marks with a Gujarati comprehension section, it is the constable syllabus, not the PSI one.

Gujarat Police PSI Syllabus: Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Preparing from the Lokrakshak syllabus and assuming it applies to the PSI syllabus. The two papers share almost nothing in structure.
  • Leaving Paper 2 until the last month. It is 100 marks and pure practice.
  • Practising descriptive answers only on ruled paper.
  • Leaving MCQ bubbles blank instead of marking option E.
  • Skipping public administration because it was not in your constable preparation.
  • Ignoring world geography and world current affairs.
  • Assuming a strong Part B score can compensate for a weak Part A. The 40% gate applies to each part separately.

Gujarat Police PSI Syllabus FAQs

What is the Gujarat Police PSI Syllabus total marks?

The Main Exam carries 300 marks. Paper 1 is General Studies with 200 MCQ marks in 3 hours, divided into Part A of 100 marks and Part B of 100 marks. Paper 2 is a descriptive Gujarati and English language paper of 100 marks in 3 hours. The total examination time is 6 hours across both papers.

Where can I get the PSI syllabus 2026 PDF download?

The official document is published on gprb.gujarat.gov.in under the Downloads or Recruitment section, and the exam pattern also appears inside the advertisement PDF on ojas.gujarat.gov.in. Download only from these two sources, since older files circulating elsewhere sometimes carry the constable mark split instead.

Is the PSI syllabus available in Gujarati?

Yes. The official syllabus document prints all Part B topics in Gujarati, with only the subject headings in English. Paper 2 is itself a Gujarati and English language paper. Every topic on this page has been reproduced in Gujarati exactly as the board published it.

Is there negative marking in the Gujarat PSI exam?

Yes. Each wrong answer in Paper 1 carries a deduction of 0.25 marks. Selecting option E, meaning “Not attempted”, carries no penalty. But leaving a question completely blank, or marking more than one option, also costs 0.25 marks. Using white ink on the OMR sheet makes the answer wrong.

What are the minimum qualifying marks for PSI?

You need 40% in Part A and Part B of Paper 1 separately, and 40% in Paper 2. Paper 2 is evaluated only for candidates who clear both parts of Paper 1, so failing either half of the MCQ paper ends your candidature regardless of how well you wrote the descriptive paper.

How is the PSI syllabus different from the LRD syllabus?

Completely different. The Lokrakshak paper is a single 200-mark MCQ test with Part A of 80 marks and Part B of 120. The PSI exam has two papers totalling 300 marks, including a descriptive paper. PSI also adds public administration and world geography, neither of which appears in the constable syllabus.

Is the Wireless PSI syllabus the same as this one?

No. This page covers the Unarmed PSI cadre. Police Sub Inspector (Wireless) and Police Sub Inspector (Motor Transport) are technical cadres requiring an engineering qualification, and their examinations include a technical subject paper. Check the specific advertisement number before using any syllabus.

How many questions are there in PSI Paper 1?

Paper 1 has 200 questions for 200 marks, with 100 MCQs in Part A and 100 MCQs in Part B. Each question carries one mark. The duration is 3 hours, which works out to roughly 54 seconds per question including the time needed to fill the OMR sheet.

What type of essay comes in PSI Paper 2?

You are given five topics and must write a 350-word essay on any one of them, for 30 marks. That is the single highest-value question in the entire descriptive paper. The answer booklet has blank unruled pages, so practise on plain sheets rather than ruled notebooks.

What is the age limit and qualification for Gujarat Police PSI?

You need a graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university, and your age must be between 21 and 35 years for the general category. SC, ST, SEBC, EWS and women candidates get 5 years relaxation, serving police personnel get 3 years, and the ceiling after all relaxations is 45 years.

Which physical defects disqualify a PSI candidate?

Ten defects make a candidate physically unfit: knock knee, pigeon chest, squint eye, flat feet, varicose veins, hammer toes, fractured limb, decayed teeth, communicable skin disease and colour blindness. Colour blindness does apply to PSI, since only Jail Sepoy posts are exempt from that clause. Candidates must also meet the SHAPE-I standard.

Are there bonus marks in the Gujarat PSI exam?

Yes. An NCC ‘C’ certificate adds 2 marks. A qualification from Rashtriya Raksha University or National Forensic Sciences University adds 5 to 15 marks depending on its duration. Sportspersons and widow women candidates each get 5% of their total Paper 1 and Paper 2 marks added.

How many candidates are called for document verification?

Approximately two times the number of vacancies, based on total Main Exam marks plus all applicable bonus marks. If two candidates have equal marks, the older date of birth wins. If marks and date of birth are both equal, the taller candidate is preferred.

In which language is the PSI exam conducted?

Paper 1 is set in Gujarati or English, as specified in the instructions on the question paper. Paper 2 tests both languages directly, with a Gujarati section of 70 marks and an English section of 30 marks including a Gujarati-to-English translation.

Gujarat Police PSI Syllabus: Where to Start

The Gujarat Police PSI Syllabus splits almost perfectly into three equal 100-mark blocks. Reasoning and maths, four general studies subjects, and a descriptive language paper. Most candidates pour their time into the general studies block because it has the longest topic list, and arrive at the exam weakest in the other two.

The two gates in the PSI syllabus that actually eliminate candidates are the 40% cut in each half of Paper 1, and the descriptive paper that never gets opened if you miss them.

Download the official syllabus from gprb.gujarat.gov.in, and write your first 350-word essay on plain paper this week.
