What Each Section Is Worth in Merit Marks
Here is the part almost nobody works out. Your exam score is multiplied by 0.9, and an apprenticeship certificate adds a flat 10. So each syllabus section has a real value in the final merit list.

Your ITI trade theory alone is 45 of the 100 merit marks. Nothing else in this recruitment comes close. Not your ITI percentage, which carries zero weight here, and not general knowledge at 27.
The apprenticeship 10 marks are awarded at document verification, and only if the apprenticeship is in the same trade as your ITI. A different trade earns nothing.
Candidates are called for document verification at a ratio of 1.5 per post, so roughly 3,765 candidates for 2,510 vacancies.

The notification calls this “લાયકાતના વિષય વસ્તુને લગતા પ્રશ્નો”, meaning questions on the subject matter of your qualification. In practice, questions come from the ITI trade you applied with.

Electrician
Ohm’s law, series and parallel circuits, AC and DC fundamentals, single phase and three phase supply, transformers, DC and AC motors, starters, earthing, wiring systems, cables, fuses and MCBs, batteries and charging, measuring instruments, vehicle lighting circuits, and electric shock treatment.
Welder, Sheet Metal Worker and Automobile Body Repairer
Arc welding, gas welding, MIG and TIG basics, electrodes and their coding, welding joints and positions, welding defects and remedies, brazing and soldering. Sheet metal development, marking and layout, bending, shearing and forming. Body panel repair, denting, filling and finishing.
Carpenter, Painter General and Automobile Paint Repairer
Timber types, seasoning and defects, wood joints, carpentry hand tools and wood working machines. Surface preparation, primers, putty, paint types, spray painting technique, paint defects and remedies, drying and polishing.
Best source for this section: the NIMI or NCVT trade theory book for your own trade, not a general guide book. Trade Theory and Workshop Calculation and Science are the two papers that matter most here.
Basic Computer Knowledge (10 Marks)
- Computer fundamentals: input and output devices, CPU, memory types, hardware against software
- Operating system basics, file and folder handling
- MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint fundamentals
- Internet, email, web browsers and search engines
- Keyboard shortcuts and common terminology

Two Things the Notification Does Not Say
Read the advertisement carefully and you will notice two gaps. Knowing them stops you from trusting made-up detail elsewhere.
- Negative marking is never mentioned. The advertisement gives marks and duration but says nothing about deductions for wrong answers. Several websites quote a figure of 0.25 for this recruitment. That figure comes from older GSRTC advertisements, not this one.
- No minimum qualifying percentage is printed. The advertisement does not set a pass mark for the written test. Merit is built purely from the 90 plus 10 weightage.

- Give your trade the most time. It is 45 of the 100 merit marks. Two to three hours daily on trade theory, covering both ITI years, with short notes of formulas, tool specifications and troubleshooting tables.
- Read one Gujarati newspaper daily. Twenty-seven merit marks depend on Gujarat history, geography and current affairs. A Standard 8 to 10 social science textbook covers the static part cheaply.
- Do not skip computer basics. Ten marks in the paper, nine in merit, and it is the easiest section to finish in a week.
- Cap grammar preparation at two weeks. Both grammar sections together are worth nine merit marks.
- Prepare in Gujarati. The paper is set in Gujarati, so candidates who study trade theory only in English lose time translating terms in the hall.
- Solve previous year GSRTC Helper papers. The technical questions repeat in pattern even when the wording changes.
